Qualifying at the Marina Bay Circuit and Fernando Alonso surprised everybody except maybe himself setting fastest lap and claiming pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel while fastest all through practice by over half a second could not put together a good lap in the final qualifying session and came in second to Alonso although ahead of Hamilton and Button in the McLarens.

While Ferrari was cheering Alonso’s pole setting performance they did not have it all their own way. Felipe Massa’s Ferrari stopped on track in the first Qualifying session ruining his chances for the race. The second mechanical failure of the weekend for Ferrari, casting a shadow of doubt over the reliability of the latest iteration of the F10 chassis that the team is using for the Singapore Grand Prix.
Championship leader Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber managed no better than 5th place on the grid, driving off the pace for most of the weekend, not what he was hoping for as the Championship winds down with just 5 Grand Prix left in the season and every point being ever more important.
If Alonso can win tomorrow it will will be his second win in two races and will make him a real contender for the Drivers championship.
Should be a great race.
