No USF1 Replacement. FIA Rejects All Applicants

by F1Fan on September 18, 2010

The FIA turns down all applicants for the Open Grid Slot in the 2011 Formula One World Championship.

The open grid slot was created by the implosion and failure of the much heralded US Based Team, USF1. Which failed to make the grid at the beginning of this season and subsequently filed for Bankruptcy after failing to gain an extension from the FIA and loosing what little sponsorship and investors that it had.

The FIA announced its decision at the same time as it released the 2011 Race Calendar and stated:

Following the press release of 19 March 2010 calling for expressions of interest to participate in the 2011 and 2012 seasons of the FIA Formula One World Championship, a number of interested parties expressed their interest. It was considered that none of the candidates met the requirements to be granted an entry into the Championship.

Consequently, the allocation of the 13th team will not be granted.
