Qualifying at the Belgium Grand Prix was controlled by the weather yet again.
Q1 saw Vitaly Petrov crash after only half a lap, loosing control because of the damp conditions which bought out the Yellow flag and effectively killed any hope of a fast time during Q1 because rain began to sweep through the circuit witihin minutes of his off.
During Q2 Michael Schumacher at one point posted the fastest lap but as the track dried both he and his team mate Rosberg failed to get out of Q2 a disastrous result for Mercedes.
The McLaren’s of Hamilton and Button were fast in Q2 and looked set for a good result but in Q3 Mark Webber in the Red Bull Racing RB6 pulled out all the stops and set a blisteringly fast lap and with a little luck from the weather managed to stay in from of Lewis Hamilton and Robert Kubica.
