Milan, 29 April 2010 – Pirelli communicates its decision to present a technical and commercial offer for supply of tyres to all the teams in the Formula One world championship. The company plans to present the bid to FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) and FOA (Formula One Administration Limited) by 9 May, the date of the next Formula One Gran Prix to be held in Spain.

The French tire giant Michelin and Avon Motorsport, the competition tyre department of Cooper Tire which in turn is the European subsidiary of an American Tire Company have already announced that they are interested in supplying tires for Formula One.

Michelin is a known quantity supplying tires to most of the teams in F1 before Bridgestone won the sole supplier contract, and Avon is the new comer to F1, although Avon have a good reputation supplying tires in other forms of Motorsport over the last 25 years. Pirelli has supplied tires to F1 in the past, but not since 1991 currently they are a tire supplier for the World Rally Championship (WRC), Grand Am Rolex sports car series and FIA GT series along with other Sports car racing.

It will be interesting to see who wins out and if anyone else decides to join the fray.
