HRT Racing F1 Team Proving Persistence Pays

by F1Fan on April 21, 2010

HRT Racing F1 Team, the last team to join the 2010 Formula One World Championship is slowly but surely improving.

The team that almost failed to make the grid in the first race of the season, only being saved by a last minute cash infusion from one of the original investors. The team that has the questionable record of having one of their drivers to be the first Formula One driver to ever drive his Formula One car for the first time in the race itself, missing both practice and qualifying. The Team that in their first Grand Prix had both drivers, Senna & Chandhok retire with mechanical problems very early in the race. Has been quietly working away, making small incremental steps at each race.

In Melbourne Australia, Senna still had mechanical problems and failed to finish but remarkably Chandhok managed to complete the race distance, and while still the last car to take the checkered flag, finished 14th.

Since Melbourne the HRT Racing F1 team has managed to have both cars finish Malaysia and China, racking up a total of 5 finishes so far this season, matching Lotus Racing and easily eclipsing not only Virgin Racing but also BMW Sauber F1 both of whom have been suffering major mechanical issues and between them have only finished a meager one Grand Prix a piece.

Talking about his teams performance in last weekends race in China Dr. Colin Kolles, Team Principal, commented:

“A good day for the team completing our second two-car finish in the rain in our fourth race. Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna drove their second wet race after Australia. Again we reached our goal with two cars finishing the race and we gathered quite a lot of data on this track that can be used for the European season. Congratulations to the team. Now in the three weeks to come, we must work on more developments for the team’s home Grand Prix in Barcelona.”

It will be interesting to see what the team and its chassis builder Dallara come up with in the next three weeks, HRT definitely seem to have a reliable car, but “Fast” is not currently a word in the teams curriculum.
