The news just got a whole lot worse for USF1 fans.
SpeedTV’s Bob Varsha reported today on the “Speed Report” that USF1 has lodged a formal request with the FIA to defer their entry until 2011. As part of the request Varsha also reported that the team is prepared to put up a seven figure bond to demonstrate the teams commitment to overcoming its present problems.
Whether the FIA will entertain such a request is anybody’s guess but Speed has been led to believe that the FIA is supportive of USF1′s request following the recent visit of FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting to the teams US headquarters this past Wednesday.
Apparently this request was made by USF1 after talks with Campos Meta 1 and Stephan Gp broke down.
So it now looks that the American team has no chance of participating in the 2010 season and that at a minimum their will be two open slots on the Grid at the opening Bahrain Grand Prix. In fact there may even be 4 open slots, if Campos also fails to make the first race which looks highly likely, especially as Campos’s new Dalarra Chassis has yet to turn a wheel under power.
