Massa Still Fastest on Day 2

by F1Fan on February 2, 2010

The second day of testing at Valencia saw lap times tumbling and while not having the biggest improvement Felipe Massa continued to show what the Ferrari F10 is made of setting Fastest lap for the second day running.

This season with the ban on refueling, fuel tank capacity is substantially larger and fuel load will have a large impact on a car pace. So while Ferrari must be pleased with the F10’s initial performance, the lap times of the other teams may not be indicative of the true pace of their cars as we do not know the fuel loads each team is running.

Another Team that must be pleased is BMW Sauber, second fastest again today but this time with their less experienced driver Kamui Kobayashi at the wheel of the C29, driving quickly enough to push Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren MP4-25 down to third fastest.

In his second day of testing Robert Kubica made a large improvement in lap time cutting over 2.5 seconds off his previous days performance. Commenting on the days test Kubica was happy with the progress:

“After checking the systems on the car yesterday, we spent today trying to understand the car a bit more, especially to see how the balance reacted to some set-up changes. It’s quite different to what I have been used to, so it was important to get a good feel for how the car behaves. We did one very long run, which went pretty well, and there have been no problems, which is a good sign for our reliability.”

Tomorrow will see Vitaly Petrov in the Renault R30 so it will be interesting to see how his times compare to Kubia and F1 new comer Kamui Kobayashi in the BMW Sauber.
