Bad News! Neck Injury May Prevent Shuey’s Return

by F1Fan on December 20, 2009

According to Ferrari Chairman Luca Di Montezemelo Michael Schumacher’s return to Formula One, driving for his old friend and mentor Ross Brawn for the new Mercedes Grand Prix Team is almost assured.

The only thing that could stand in the way of this much talked about but highly unlikely situation may be the neck injury that Michael suffered earlier this year while testing a racing Motorbike.

This same injury prevented Michael from standing in for the injured Felipe Massa at Ferrari this past season, so the issue is, has he recovered sufficiently to withstand the rigours of a full F1 season. Apparently it is a done deal with Mercedes Grand Prix subject to Shuey’s clean bill of health.

I for one hope that he is fit enough to return, it will be great for Formula One. To see the seven time World F1 Drivers champion and statistically the most successful F1 driver of all time competing with the new young guns of F1, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel and for that matter current champion Jenson Button will be compelling.

Will he still be able to dominate the field as he did during his career, part of his success, was definitely due to being in the best car in the field, but no one can doubt his track record, innate talent and supremely competitive nature.

The combination of Michael Schumacher and Ross Brawn could well lead to a new chapter of Formula One success, just this time it will be Mercedes not Ferrari that will benefitting from their collaboration.
