FIA Revises 2010 F1 Race Schedule

by F1Fan on October 22, 2009

At the recent meeting of the World Motor Sports Council held in Paris earlier this week the FIA revised the 2010 Race Schedule.

When the original schedule came out a number of the teams complained about the logistic problems of having Monaco and Turkey so close together, The FIA has listened to the teams and in order to accommodate the teams concerns has moved Monaco race date forward one week to May 16th.

# Events may swap dates subject to approval by event promoters

At the same meeting the FIA approved in principal the proposal to swap the dates of the final two Races in Abu Dhabi and Brazil, so Brazil may not be the final race of the 2010 season. However this decision is pending the agreements of the Promoters of both tracks so we may not know the answer until after the World Motor Sport Council meeting in December when the final decision on the 2010 calendar will be made.

Canada, Great Britain and Korea still are not yet confirmed. Apparently the contract negotiations between Montreal Circuit promoters and Formula One Management have still not been completed. The British Grand Prix is meant to move to the Donnington in 2010 but there is a big question mark over the finances of the circuit’s promoters and whether or not the circuit will be ready in time, so, that may move back to Silverstone, but Ecclestone and Formula One Management need to make a decision quickly or there may not be a British Grand Prix in 2010.
Korea is another circuit, like Donnington which is shown as needing homologation by the FIA. I guess we will have to wait until December to know the final race calendar for next season.
