My Money is on Massa’s Return in Brazil

by F1Fan on October 8, 2009

Felipe Massa has made a remarkable recovery from his serious injuries suffered at the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this season. Already back at Marenello working on the Race Simulator and in the gym I wonder if Ferrari will let Massa Return for the Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo later this month.

My Reasoning is this:

  • With arch rival McLaren showing massively improved pace during the few races and closing in on Ferrari for third place in the championship, every point will count in the last two races of the season. Fisichella’s performance so far while better than Luca Badoer, hasn’t gained many points for Ferrari, he is struggling to get to grips with the F60, so the pressure is really on.
  • Raikkonen has been driving like a man possessed and is more than doing his part, but he can’t do it alone and it will take a real team effort to stay in third place in the constructors championship this season ahead of McLaren.
  • Ferrari and McLaren have both announced new road cars, Ferrari the 458 Italia and Mclaren the MP4-12c, both companies will want to maximise the marketing advantage of finishing ahead of the other.
  • Can you Imagine the crowd reaction at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo if Massa were to return to racing at the Grand Prix where he almost won the Drivers Championship last year, winning the race but loosing out to Lewis Hamilton when Hamilton managed to pass Glock on the final corner coming in 5th enough to win the 2008 F1 Drivers Championship by one point.

So my bet is as long as the simulator tests look OK and Massa feels he is up to it we will see him racing in Brazil.

I just hope I am correct, at least we won’t have to wait long to find out!
