Button Still leads Drivers Championship but Barrichello Closes In

by F1Fan on September 15, 2009

With the European F1 season over and only four races left in the 2009 season the race for Drivers championship is heating up.

Earlier in the season Jenson Button looked like he was going to be the easy winner, amassing 6 wins out the first seven races and never finishing off the poduim. But how things changed since his last win in the Turkish Grand Prix. Between Silverstone and Spa Button never finished higher than 5th and failed to score any points at Spa where he was taken out in a first lap incident. Monza was a welcome return to form for Button coming in second, but he still finished behind his team mate Rubens Barrichello whose second win out of the last three races has narrowed the gap to only 14 points.

Even though Raikkonen finished on the podium in third place at Monza he needed to come in at least  in 2nd place to have a mathematical chance at wining the championship. So it comes down to a fight between Button, Barrachello, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. I can’t wait for the Singapore Grand Prix in two weeks.
