Jenson Button at Spa Francorchamps

2009 F1 Championship Tightens After Belgium Grand Prix

by F1Fan on August 31, 2009

Earlier this season Jenson Button looks like he would be the run away Champion of the 2009 season, but how things have changed for the 29 year old Brit.

Winning 6 out of the first 7 races of the season Button had a commanding lead in the Drivers Championship, but since Turkey Button has not been on the podium.

The Belgium Grand Prix was the worst race weekend so far for Jenson, not even making it out of Q2 in qualifying, and then being involved in a massive shunt on the first lap of the race when Grosjean rear ended Button as he was slowing because of the incident between Raikkonen and Trulli.

Luckily other than Sebastian Vettel, Buttons closest competition was not on the Podium at Spa, and not in the major points. Vettel had retired from the last two races so he had a long way to make up, Rubens came in Seventh and gained only two points and Weber failed to score.
