Felippe Massa First Steps

Massa Recovery on Track

by F1Fan on July 29, 2009

The news continues to be good as far as Felipe Massa’s rate of recovery at Budapest’s AEK hospital following the accident during the Hungarian GP’s qualifying.

Yesterday Massa’s personal Doctor, Dino Altman is quoted as saying:

His condition is improving quickly and constantly. He is more and more awake and reactive. He spoke to several people today, using three different languages, replying always in a coherent way. He’s also progressing with his physiotherapy very well. He opened his left eye and confirmed that he can see with it. As far as the near future is concerned we have to be cautious, but I have to say that also today there are very positive signs.”

Yesterday morning Stefano Domenicali returned to Budapest and had an emotional reunion with the recovering driver, afterwards Domenicali reported:

“It’s good to have comforting news. I spoke to Felipe and it was very emotional for me: he recognised me and I brought him a message from everybody at Ferrari and from the fans all over the world. I told him that his red car will wait for him until he’s ready to race again. Now we’ve got to take it step by step and remain cautious, but it’s really incredible to see all of this progress only three days after the accident.”

This is followed by more good news contained in this mornings press release by Ferrari:

“Budapest, 29th July 2009 – More good news from the AEK in Budapest, where Felipe Massa has been recovering since last Saturday. The driver has had more exams carried out, confirming his continuing improvement. Felipe speaks, can sit upright and was even able to take his first steps. Today he will leave intensive care.

From the clinical and radiological point of view everything is going extremely well. Felipe will stay at the AEK hospital for the next view days, until he can be taken somewhere else.

In the afternoon Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemolo will come back to Budapest, when he will greet Felipe personally also on behalf of the whole Company and the fans who continue sending best wishes via www.ferrari.com.”

This will be the Ferrari Chairmans second visit to Felipe in almost as many days, I think that speaks volumes about the closeness and importance of the F1 team to Ferrari.
