Ex World Champion to replace Massa

by F1Fan on July 29, 2009

Ferrari Announced today that Michael Schumacher will take over from Felipe Massa untill Massa is fit to return to Formula One.

“Maranello, 29 July 2009 – Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro intends to put Michael Schumacher in Felipe Massa’s car untill the brazilian driver will be able to race again. Michael Schumacher said he is ready and, over the next few days, will undertake a specifc training programme at the end of which confermation will be given of his participation in the Championship with effect from the European Grand Prix on the 23rd of August.”

While seven time World Champion Michael Schumacher has been retired for the last two seasons he has still been actively involved with the Ferrari F1 team. Luckily the European Grand Prix in Valencia is almost 4 weeks away so Michael will have time to get himself in shape. Given his reputation as a fitness fanatic, when competing, getting in shape may not take to long.

It will be interesting to see how Michael adapts to the F60, a car that will be markedly different from his last competitive drive.  My bet is that even though he is an old Fart by F1 standards and  hasn’t raced in F1 for two years, with his natural talent he will still be  competing for a podium.

This is really going to set the cat among the pigeons, looks like the second half of this season may really bring the Formula 1 Fans out. I bet Bernie is already counting the money.
