Mosely Pushes FOTA Over The Edge

by F1Fan on June 19, 2009

All indications are that Max Mosely has massively overplayed his hand. The intransigent position he and the FIA have taken with FOTA and his refusal to compromise on changes to the regulations for 2010 requested by FOTA has left the Team’s with only one viable option.

The Final Straw

His last letter to the Teams seems to have been the final straw and after a long meeting between the eight remaining Team Members at Renaults facility in Enstone the decision was made to create a break away series.

Following the meeting FOTA issued the following statement: “The teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship. ” “These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new Championship which reflects the values of its participants and partners. This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including offering lower prices for spectators worldwide, partners and other important stakeholders.”

“The major drivers, stars, brands, sponsors, promoters and companies historically associated with the highest level of motorsport will all feature in this new series.”

Unless some last minute concessions are made by Mosely and the FIA they will end up reigning over an emaciated Formula One series with all of the front running teams absent. The 201o season will only have one team with any real history in F1, Williams, the only other team currently in Formula One, Force India hasn’t even managed to score a single point yet in 2009.  All of the other teams will be brand new, Campos, Manor and Team USF1 all confirmed  last week and presumably a few more new entrants that couldn’t make the cut on the first review.

I find it hard to see how the winning team for a 2010 season with such a list of entrants could really claim that they were true F1 Champions. It will be a complete mockery of the sport.

A Message to Max

So, Mr Mosely congratulations on a good weeks work, you have single handedly destroyed the very sport you claim to be protecting. I understand that you will be at the British Grand Prix this weekend, I just hope that the British Fans give you the welcome you so richly deserve.
