British Grand Prix – Friday Practice

by F1Fan on June 19, 2009

While not much can be predicted from the results of the first two F1 practice sessions it certainly appears that Red Bull Racing have made real improvement in their car with the new aero package. Both Red Bull Drivers ended up at the top of the time charts with Sebastian Vettel being fastest in Both Sessions and Webber setting second fastest laps.

Brawn GP continues to looks strong with Button setting third fastest lap closely followed by his team mate Rubens Barrichello. Fernando Alonzo in his renault didn’t have a bad day being fifth in both sessions. Ferrari was hoping for a major improvement but seems to be continuing to struggle despite a new package for the F60, The Toyota drivers said they were each happy with the car and had no problems.

The same cannot be said for BMW Saubers, Robert Kubica who had electronic problems with the car during the first practice session, and then in the afternoon last power in the engine. Hamilton is running his McLaren without KERS, whereas his team mate is using it. Even though Silverstone does not favor KERS Heiki Kovalainen was quoted as saying that he felt it help his lap time.

The other teams Williams, Force India and Torro Rosso all had uneventful days. Most teams spent a lot of time trying to improve the balance of their cars which is critical at Silverstone given the windy conditions for which it is known.
